Tile Trio Strategy Guide

Quick answer

Tile Trio is a triple tile-matching puzzle: tap free tiles to send them into a 7-slot tray, and three of the same kind pop. A full tray with no trio ends the level. The best strategy is to look at covered tiles before tapping, only take tiles you can pair soon, and keep the last two tray slots free whenever possible.

Tile Trio looks relaxed, with big glossy tiles of fruit, sweets, toys and lucky charms, and an OvO hopping out to cheer every time three tiles pop. Underneath, though, it is a planning puzzle about one limited resource: the tray. This guide explains exactly how the tray works and gives you a repeatable way to approach its 200 layered levels.

Games to try

How Tile Trio works

The board is a stack of tiles in layers. Only free, raised tiles can be tapped; tiles that are covered by others have to wait until the tiles on top are cleared. When you tap a free tile it flies into the tray at the bottom of the screen. Three tiles of the same kind in the tray pop and leave.

The tray holds seven tiles. If it fills up and there is no trio to pop, the level ends. Clear every tile on the board to win. All 200 levels are designed to be solvable, so a lost level always had a better order.

Think of the tray as your budget

Every tile you tap that does not complete a trio spends one of your seven slots. That means the question for each tap is not just whether the tile is free, but whether you can find its two partners soon.

A simple habit: keep the last two slots free whenever you can. With five tiles in the tray you still have room to collect a pair and complete it. With six, you need the very next tap to finish a trio. Players who fill the tray to six regularly lose on hard levels, even when the board looked easy.

Read the layers before you tap

Covered tiles still show their picture, so you can plan ahead. Before tapping, look under the top layer for the kinds that appear most often. If you can see three of one kind and all three will be reachable soon, that is a safe set to work on.

Also watch which tiles free up the most new tiles when cleared. Removing a tile that sits on top of three others opens more options than removing a tile at the edge of the board. On crowded levels, opening options is often more important than popping a trio immediately.

A step-by-step approach

This routine works well on most levels:

  • Scan the board and note any kind with three free or nearly free tiles.
  • Pop those safe trios first to start with an empty tray.
  • Next, tap tiles that both pair with something in the tray and uncover new tiles.
  • Avoid adding a third or fourth different kind to the tray unless you can see its partners.
  • When only a few tiles remain, count them: the final tiles must form complete trios, so plan the last steps carefully.

Working in this order keeps the tray mostly empty and makes the endgame predictable.

Using Undo, Hint and Shuffle

Tile Trio has three boosters. Undo takes back your last tap and is the most useful when you realise a tile has no reachable partners. Hint finds tiles that finish a trio, which is handy when the board is busy and you cannot spot the match. Shuffle rearranges the board.

Try to use Undo early rather than late: one undo the moment you notice a mistake saves more than several boosters at the end. Boosters can be used with OvO Tokens that you earn by playing.

Stars, difficulty and the sticker album

You earn stars for clearing the board quickly. The difficulty follows the OvO.games rhythm: a calmer level every 5th and a hard level every 10th. Hard levels have more layers and more kinds of tile, so the tray budget matters even more.

Every new item you pop adds a sticker to your album, which has 32 stickers spread over four pages. The album is a nice side goal that rewards playing through the levels rather than grinding one.

Where to play

Tile Trio is free to play in any modern web browser at ovo.games and in the OvO.games app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The first 40 levels are free for everyone with ads; OvO Pass unlocks every level and removes ads. If you like the calm planning of Tile Trio, Feather Solitaire offers a similar feeling with cards, and our guide to brain-training puzzles for short breaks suggests other games that fit a few spare minutes.

Questions

How many tiles does the Tile Trio tray hold?

Seven. If the tray fills up and no three matching tiles are in it, the level ends.

Can I see covered tiles in Tile Trio?

Yes. Covered tiles show their picture, so you can plan which kinds will become available next. You can only tap free, raised tiles.

Are all Tile Trio levels solvable?

Yes. The 200 layered levels are designed to be solvable. If you lose, a different tapping order would have worked.

What is the sticker album?

Each new item you pop adds a sticker to an album of 32 stickers on four pages.
