How do you play a screw puzzle game?

Screw Crew is played on a 3D board of soft pastel plates, bars and squares, stacked in layers and pinned with coloured screws. Two OvOs at the top each hold an open box for one colour, and each box takes three screws. A small Next chip shows the colours coming after them.

1. 1Step 1: Look for screws on top. A screw is free only when no plate above it covers it. Covered screws show faintly through the glassy plates, and tapping one just makes it wobble. Drag across the board to turn it a little and see between the layers.
2. 2Step 2: Tap a free screw whose colour matches an open box. It spins out and flies into the box. When a plate loses its last screw it drops away and shows what was under it.
3. 3Step 3: A screw with no matching box goes to the tray, which has five slots. When a box is full its OvO carries it off, the next box arrives, and tray screws of that colour hop in by themselves. If the tray fills up, the level ends.

Tips for the hardest screw puzzle levels

Check the Next chip before every tap. A screw for a colour that is coming up soon is a safer tray move than one for a colour far down the queue. Clear the plates on top first, because each one that drops frees several screws at once. Before you send a screw to the tray, look for another free screw that fits an open box. Try to keep the tray at one or two screws: you get three stars when it never holds more than one. Every fifth level is a lighter breather and every tenth is a hard one with an extra layer and an extra colour, so slow down on those. If you are stuck, Hint points to a good screw, +Slot adds one more tray slot, and Wrench pulls out any screw, even a covered one. These three cost tokens. Restart is free.

Can you play Screw Crew on a phone or a computer?

Yes. Screw Crew runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, and in the OvO.games app, so there is nothing to install. It is built in real 3D and plays upright on a phone; if you turn the phone sideways, it asks you to turn it back. On tablets and computers it fits the screen. The screws have a large tap area, so small screens are fine. In Settings you can turn on Shapes, which puts a symbol on every screw head and box, handy if some colours look alike to you. It also follows dark mode and reduced motion. There are eight screw colours in total, and later levels use more of them on bigger boards.

Is the screw puzzle game free to play online?

Yes. Screw Crew has 200 levels, the first 40 are free for everyone, and the optional OvO Pass unlocks the rest. Every level is built so that it can be solved without boosters. Besides the level path there is a daily puzzle and a challenge mode. The menus come in English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
