How to play Sky Obby

Updated 6 min read

Quick answer

Here is how to play Sky Obby: drag on the left side of the screen to run, and tap Jump or the right side to jump. Guide Sky across floating cloud platforms, touch every checkpoint flag and reach the golden finish. A fall only sends you back to the last flag, and one fall or fewer earns three stars.

Sky Obby level 13 in a desktop browser: Sky, a blue OvO in a backwards cap, runs on a pink platform with orange lava patches while stepping blocks and a flag lead to the purple finish arch
Level 13 on a computer: lava patches up front, then stepping blocks, a flag and the finish arch.

Sky Obby is a 3D obby, or obstacle course game, on OvO.games. You play as Sky, the sporty OvO in a backwards cap, and run and jump through 300 courses floating above the clouds. The first 40 courses are free, the game plays in the web browser on a phone or a computer, and there is no time limit. This guide covers the rules, the controls, every obstacle you will meet and how to keep your falls low on the harder courses.

What is the goal in Sky Obby?

Each course is a chain of floating pieces that starts on a launch pad and ends at a purple finish arch with a gold trophy. Checkpoint flags stand along the way, every three pieces on the first nine courses and every four after that. The bar at the top shows how many flags you have reached, how many times you have fallen and the one-fall limit for three stars. If Sky drops off the edge, lands in lava or gets knocked off by a spinning bar, Sky goes back to the last flag you touched. Nothing else is lost. There are no lives and no clock, so a course can never be failed, only finished with more or fewer stars. Early courses have a handful of pieces, and later ones grow to as many as twenty.

How to play Sky Obby, step by step

The whole game uses two actions, run and jump, and the camera follows Sky from behind and slightly above, leading a little in the direction you run. There is no timer, so the only pressure comes from the course itself: gaps, moving pieces and the drop below. The pictures below come from level 13 and level 28 on a phone, where the dashed run ring sits at the bottom left and the purple Jump button at the bottom right.

  1. Sky Obby level 28 on a phone: Sky on a pale blue platform beside orange lava patches, a dashed run ring at bottom left and a round purple jump button at bottom rightStep 1: Put your thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen and drag. A floating stick appears where you touch, shown by the dashed ring, and Sky runs the way you push. Pushing up runs forward, away from the camera.
  2. Sky Obby level 13 on a phone: Sky stands on a tan stepping block, with pastel blocks leading to a checkpoint flag on a peach platform and the purple finish arch far aheadStep 2: Tap the purple Jump button or anywhere on the right side to jump. Take off from the very edge of a platform, because a running jump covers about four metres. The game still accepts a jump pressed a split second after you run off an edge, or a moment before you land.
  3. Sky Obby level 28 on a phone: the checkpoint counter shows 1 of 1 while Sky jumps between green and lilac blocks toward the yellow finish platform and its purple archStep 3: Run through each checkpoint flag. The counter at the top goes up and that flag becomes your new restart point. After the last flag, reach the finish arch with the trophy to end the course and see your time, falls and stars.
  4. Step 4: On a computer, use WASD or the arrow keys to run and Space to jump. You can steer in the air with the stick or the keys, so keep pushing toward your landing spot while Sky is mid-jump.

What obstacles are in Sky Obby?

Sky Obby level 52 on a phone: Sky on a lilac platform heads down a safe lane between orange lava patches toward a pink bounce mushroom and a checkpoint flag
Level 52: a lava floor with a safe lane through the middle, and a bounce mushroom by the next flag.

New pieces arrive one at a time, each on its own debut course. Hops and stairs are there from level 1, narrow beams from level 3 and sliding platforms from level 5. Crumbling cookie tiles join at level 9: they drop just under half a second after you land and come back two and a half seconds later. Lava floors with a zig-zag safe lane start at level 13, bounce mushrooms at level 17, blinking glass at level 22 and spinning candy bars at level 28. Ferries that glide along the course arrive at level 36 and lifts at level 46. Levels 5, 15, 25 and so on are short CHILL breathers, and every tenth level is a HARD course with five extra pieces that leans on the tough ones.

Tips to beat hard levels in Sky Obby

Slow down first. With no clock, you can stop on a safe platform and watch a pattern once before you move. Wait for sliding platforms and ferries to come to you, then jump as they pass the middle. Keep running across cookie tiles, since they fall half a second after you touch them. Blinking glass flickers just before it vanishes, so jump onto it right after it turns solid. On lava floors, stay on the safe lane and take the bends gently instead of at full speed. Hop over a spinning candy bar just before it reaches you. On a bounce mushroom, steer toward the higher platform while Sky is in the air. If one part keeps beating you, turn on Wings before it: your next fall puts Sky back on the last safe platform instead of the last flag.

How do stars, Skip and tokens work?

Stars count falls only. Finish with at most one fall for three stars, at most four falls for two stars, and any finish earns one. Restart is free and starts the course over with zero falls, which helps when an early slip has already cost you three stars. Skip and Wings cost OvO Tokens, the coins you earn by finishing courses. Skip moves Sky to the next checkpoint, and from the last flag it stops on the final platform before the finish, so you still make the last jump yourself. Missions add extra tokens for clearing three courses, getting three stars on two courses and finishing two courses without boosters. There is also a daily course, and when you finish it you can challenge a friend.

Is Sky Obby free, and can you play it on a phone?

Yes to both. Sky Obby is free on ovo.games, and the first 40 courses are open to everyone. The optional OvO Pass, which also gives 500 tokens a month, unlocks every course up to level 300. There is nothing to download or install: the game runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone it is made to play upright with two thumbs, one for the stick and one for Jump, and it works sideways too. On a computer you can play with the keyboard.
