Block puzzle game app: three OvO block games you can play right now
Updated 5 min read
Quick answer
Most block puzzle game apps live in an app store, but the OvO block puzzles need no download: open ovo.games in your phone, tablet or computer browser and play Nest Blocks, Gate Jam or Stack Tower. On Android, the free OvO.games app on Google Play has the same games. Nest Blocks and Gate Jam give everyone 40 free levels.

Search for a block puzzle game app and most results send you to an app store first. The OvO block puzzles skip that step: they open in a browser tab, and Android players can also get them in the OvO.games app. Here are three of them, how each one plays, which one has a timer and what you get for free.

Is there a block puzzle game app, or do you play in the browser?
Both, depending on your phone. Every OvO game runs in the web browser you already have, on a phone, tablet or computer, so there is nothing to install and no sign-up form: you start as a guest and the game opens. On Android, the free OvO.games app on Google Play carries the same games, Nest Blocks, Gate Jam and Stack Tower included. On iPhone and iPad, the App Store version is listed as coming soon on ovo.games/download. Until then, open ovo.games in Safari and use Add to Home Screen: OvO gets its own icon and opens full screen in one tap, much like an app. A guest profile stays on the device you play on. Sign in with Apple or Google if you want your progress to follow you between the browser and the app. Offline play is not something we promise, so have a connection when you start a game.
Nest Blocks: the drag-and-drop line clearer

Nest Blocks is the block puzzle most people picture: glossy jelly blocks, an 8 by 8 board and a tray of three pieces. Drag a block onto the board and fill a whole row or column to clear it. A new set of three arrives once all three are placed. While you drag, the block floats a little above your finger so you can see where it will land, and the lines it is about to clear light up. Keep clearing lines within a few drops of each other for a combo streak, and empty the whole board for a big bonus. There are two modes. Adventure has 200 levels with OvO eggs hidden in the straw: clear the lines they sit on to rescue them. Classic is endless and chases your best score, and there is a Daily run too. Stuck? Undo is free once per level, Hammer smashes one block but never an egg, and New blocks swaps your tray for three helper blocks picked to rescue the most eggs and clear the most lines.
Gate Jam: a sliding block puzzle against the clock

Gate Jam is a sliding block puzzle. Each block is a cart full of OvOs, from one cell up to five, and the border of the board has gates in different colours. Drag a cart through the free cells and push it into the gate of its colour. If the cart's whole side fits the gate, it slides out and the OvOs cheer and head home; a gate of the wrong colour just bumps it back. Clear every cart before the timer runs out. The clock, between 60 and 180 seconds, starts with your first move. New kinds of cart join as you go: one-way carts from level 8, star carts that add five seconds from level 12, frozen carts from level 18 and two-colour carts from level 28. There are 200 levels. Freeze stops the clock for 10 seconds, Hint shows the next cart to move and its path, and Restart is free. On a computer, drag with the mouse or pick a cart with Space and slide it with the arrow keys.
Stack Tower: one-tap block stacking

Stack Tower swaps dragging for timing. A clay block slides in from alternating sides and you tap anywhere to drop it on the tower. Whatever hangs over the edge is sliced off, so the tower gets narrower with every sloppy drop. Land it almost exactly on top for a Perfect: nothing is cut, you score 2 instead of 1, and from the fifth Perfect in a row each one grows your block back a little. Miss the tower completely and the run is over. Your OvO rides the newest block while the sky turns from day to sunset to night. Ice blocks slide faster, gift blocks give eggs, and breezy gusts make blocks wobble. Eggs unlock costumes in the Wardrobe and are never bought. It is a score game with no levels, so all of it is free, and the Daily tower is the same for everyone that day. On a computer, Space, Enter, the Down arrow or S drops the block.
Which one has no timer, and what is free?
If a ticking clock is not your idea of a break, pick Nest Blocks. It has no timer at all: you only lose a level or a Classic run when none of the blocks in your tray fits anywhere. Stack Tower has no clock either, but it is a timing game, so it asks for a steady tap. Gate Jam is the one with a countdown. All three are free with ads. Inside the games, ads come as short breaks between rounds, and some rewards are offered as a short video that you choose to watch or skip. Nest Blocks and Gate Jam open their first 40 levels to everyone, and Stack Tower is free in full. OvO Tokens you earn by playing pay for helpers. The optional OvO Pass unlocks every level, removes banner and break ads and adds 500 OvO Tokens a month; the opt-in reward videos stay available.
